What does this mean? Qualcomm needs to develop a ASIC that handles GSM, 1x, and WCDMA yet costs the same as a ASIC that supports just 1x. Is that what the statement above is saying? If that's possible, it's over. It wouldn't matter which technology the carriers use and theoretically, 1x carriers should have the advantage. If qualcomm's claims that 1xev-do is really cheaper per meg and is more efficient with voice.

If the all-in-one ASICs cost more, then that may be a different story.
