Rumours of dual handsets in April
date: February 3, 2002

There are rumours that Manx Telecom, which already operates a 3G mobile network, will have dual mode handsets by this April.

Manx and Monaco are two small states that are testing 3G particularly, Manx has roughly 200 NEC handsets and Monaco has only 70. The dual handsets will work with existing GSM and 2.5G networks when 3G service is not available.

NEC's Manx programme director, Gary Head, denied would not offer dual handsets until the third quarter of this year. There is a high chance that the other Manx supplier, Siemens, is the producer with these handsets ready for April.

Manx is currently using a WAP portal to promote 3G to its customers but using a slightly modified version of WAP but allows handset browsers to display colour.
