2002/2/4 News brief: 2001 server shipments post slight increase from 2000

Global server shipments in 2001 increased 1.8% from 2000 to 4.4 million units, posting the smallest annual growth since 1996, market research firm Dataquest reported. Compaq Computer was the leading server company in 2001 with a 23.3% market share, followed by Dell Computer, IBM, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Sun Microsystems. The US market contracted by 9.5% from 2000 to 1.7 million units. Compaq and Dell were the top two companies in the country at 23.4% and 22.6%, respectively.
