Commission of a serious/potentially violent crime while armed should be prosecuted and punished as seriously as attempted murder. I agree that armed crimes should be punished more severely, but I don't think it should have the same punishment as attempted murder. One consideration is that armed criminals would be more likely to just kill the victem if they are going to face a punishment that is so close to what the penalty for murder is, and if killing the victem would mean that no one could indetify them.
