ATMI's EMOSYN UNIT LAUNCHES NEW RANIA(r) SWIFTSIM(tm) PROGRAMMER
DANBURY, CT - February 4, 2002 - ATMI, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATMI) today announced that Emosyn LLC, its fabless smart card venture is introducing the new Rania(r) SwiftSim(tm) programmer with the launch of Emosyn's Rania Developer's Kit. The Rania SwiftSim hardware - with the Rania Simulator software - is a powerful programming combination for developing smart card applications using Emosyn's Theseus(r) Gold microprocessors.
The Rania SwiftSim hardware acts as both a smart card interface and a smart card programmer. Smart cards can be produced immediately when software coding is complete using the Rania SwiftSim hardware. Emosyn's Rania Simulator environment is its software tool for testing and proving code on the Theseus Gold 48 and Theseus Gold 96 microprocessors.
Grahame Lucas, Emosyn's Director of Sales, said, "Our entire product portfolio is designed to allow our customers to launch their smart card projects in less time, at lower cost. Emosyn's Rania SwiftSim programmer speeds and simplifies application development on the Theseus Gold integrated circuits (ICs)."
Mads Pii, Managing Director of Logos Smart Card A/S, a leading independent provider of software for smart cards, said, "By using Emosyn's Rania Developer's Kit, we developed a qualified GSM SIM 2+ product in days. The Rania Simulator software allows us to test and prove our code, while the Rania SwiftSim programmer enables us to instantly load the code onto the Theseus Gold microprocessors. We can create final SIM cards in seconds, rather than months, because Emosyn's products helped us to eliminate the ROM masking cost that other semiconductor companies require. Smart card manufacturers can eliminate the lead-time and cost of ROM-based production stock by licensing Logos Smart Card's competitively-priced SIM software for the Emosyn line of products."
Emosyn's Rania(r) development tools enable software and hardware developers to write and port applications onto the Theseus family of flash-based integrated circuits. After achieving an extensive security qualification, the Theseus Gold 48 and Theseus Gold 96 microprocessors are being used in smart card applications worldwide, including large growth areas such as GSM SIM (Global System for Mobile communication Subscriber Identification Module) cards.
Emosyn LLC, a fabless semiconductor company, is a subsidiary of ATMI, Inc. Emosyn has a design center in San Jose, California; corporate headquarters in Danbury, Connecticut; and sales and marketing headquarters in Europe.
