Dan, as you know, I've already changed my position on Rambus ever since the Microprocessor Forum in late 2000. And even recently, I waited until the DDR platform was out before building a new Pentium 4 system for myself.

But despite my change in position, I still believe Rambus would have been a good solution had it been more manufacturable and had the political battles (e.g. royalties, control over standards) not ensued. And much of the arguments coming from the anti-Rambus camp were indeed plain FUD. Perhaps the entire story will be told by both sides in a book entitled "Inside Rambus." Can't wait to see that.

As for SOI, I don't make many claims for or against it, mainly because manufacturing processes are not my thing. The link you provided is simply my utter skepticism that SOI can create a substantial jump from 1.0 GHz to 10 GHz with a single shrink. I never said SOI will be a failure, just that SOI can't possibly enable 10 GHz on an 0.13u process (nor does it really need to).
