It's far, far more complicated than that, and I'm not sure any of us have the knowledge, experience or background to comment with any degree of accuracy on these issues.

the contrast with strong-dollar American leaders (who must keep up the talk, as they are so dependent on foreign investors to keep our bubble going, even though it destroys our manufacturing base) is extreme, and shows the true interests of each party.

The foreign exchange issues inherent in Ford making engines in Mexico, brakes in Brazil, and gauges somewhere else while owning 25% of Mazda and earning a significant amount of its revenues outside the U.S. are exceedingly complex. I use Ford only as a top-of-the-head example. There are undoubtedly even more complex cases.

Not so sure the traditional views, such as the one you expressed, still hold.
