exp: Sorry I misunderstood your post. I think playing a small spike in the VXN and VIX for a 1-2 day bounce is quite risky. I would prefer to wait for the VIX to hit 35-40, possibly signifying a local bottom, and THEN move in hard and swift for a more sustained, certain bounce.
