Because he, the deliverer of the news, becomes the story, overshadowing the news themselves.

CNBC and the financial TV shows on other networks are egregious perpetrators of this trend. It started a few years ago, when the new management took over CNBC (around the time of Squawk Box's creation). Instead of the last hour of market trading (frequently co-hosted by Ron Insana), we suddenly had Street Signs WITH RON INSANA!!! They are all trying to cast their news readers as superstars. The news becomes entertainment, and this quickly leads down the slippery slope of sensationalism.
