Last I heard, Iona didn't have any regional sales office. They do a lot of telesales. This definitely keeps their expenses down. I heard their main focus isn't selling CORBA - it's making money.

Also, IONA is profitable. They were expected to make $0.04 a share last quarter and they made $0.08. They are expected to make $0.08 a share this quarter.

Additionally, Iona has been in the ORB business longer than Visigenic. Visigenic used to sell ODBC drivers until last year when they bought postmodern.

I would say the competition from Iona is very strong. However, Visigenic seems to have all the licensing agreements with all the big players (Oracle, Sybase, Netscape, etc).
