3D is more like PM, imo. I would feel no reluctance to say anything I felt about JLA in a PM to a friend. But for all the world to see, on a public thread, or over the radio, or on the NTY Op Ed page, if I bashed him, I wouldn't do it where I'd arranged in advance that he wouldn't be allowed to respond to the witnesses to my bashing.

Doing that reflects badly on anyone who does it, imo.

Everyone has different internalized standards of public conduct, I recognize. SI allows people to set bash others and prevent from responding in the 'hearing' of the witnesses of the bashing. They can't police every post.

But I find doing that in dubious taste, though 'taste' trivializes the matter, so don't do it. I think it is rather... ignoble, is maybe the word. Improper. Unbecoming. Vulgar. All those are the way it strikes me when people bash people in public while hiding where they can't be rebutted.

I am quite surprised at your taking the position that that's not improper. I would have thought it was a thing we would eye to eye on, actually.
