Hi Michael Cummings
A casual search for someone who says they worked Alaska in 70's, re:union jobs says those numbers are worth further "truth research"

"Union duplicity, Democratic jellyfish, and the great ANWR sellout"

"...Oil development in ANWR has absolutely no long term benefit to working people..."

The truly sad thing is that the unions are going to get hosed on ANWAR.

I worked on the Alaska pipeline from 75 to 79 and I can tell you that those days are gone forever. That project required a lot of heavy construction work -- they built roads and camps and a huge amount of infrastructure. The ANWAR project will consist of drilling crews, period. They'll probably hire a couple hundred truck drivers at the most.

There will be very few union jobs of any kind; the oil companies have pretty much turned Alaska into a right to work state, anyway. Friends of mine who formerly held high paying union jobs at about $30 per hour (with a lot of overtime) are now working for half of that under company contracts.
