I disagree. When there's criminal activity at the top it infects the rest of the country.
Everyone assumes it's standard operating procedure, and the marginal will follow suit. If we don't fix things it'll be like Mexico, where you never know what's going on in the back rooms, and politics is seen as a way to get rich.
Americans are decent folk. But when thievery gets rewarded on Wall Street or Washington it causes loss of confidence in our capitalist markets and increase "what the hell" attitudes. The only solution is full disclosure, top to bottom, no excuses, no exceptions.
And it is abosultely up to the leader to lay it on the line:"Ok, that's it, no shredding of documents, hiding of meetings, legal obfuscation, publish the entire truth, leave nothing out."
