I think I would characterize it as something like a distortion of our true existence and being which, however,
can be SURRENDERED into that same true existence and being.

The paradox of it is that any of the ego's attempts to do this do not work!

The only demand that I am aware of made by the Divine is something like: "BE who you ARE". The "demands" made by
Spiritual Masters are by way of assistance in that process.
