If it has reversed it is not by much. A year or so doesn't make for a reversal of the trend anyway unless it is a very big change in that year. The trend was down even during the last slowdown so I'm not sure that anything has changed in this one. It seems the trend it intact at least as far as the most recent available statistics. We should see national 2001 stats and some local 2002 stats within a year.

In addition, I would be stupid to believe there is no correlation between the number of guns in a society and the level of gun violence but you believe what you want.

Its stupid to believe that disarming law abiding citizens while leaving the criminals armed since they will ignore the laws would reduce gun violence but you can believe what you want.

There is obviously a connection between the number of guns and gun violence but it is not a simple linear one. Of course if there was no guns there would be no gun violence but once the criminals have guns increasing the number of guns may decrease the amount of gun violence.
