Hi CB,

Thanks for the very interesting and informative article on the rice situation. Who knew? I'm actually a bit taken aback by my naivete about the Louisiana producer's market. I had no idea the sold only 1% to the rest of us homeys. So much for the 'butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker' view of the invisible hand.

I find it ironic that Cuba is viewed as a good market for the surpluses. I guess I'm in favor of that. Any wedge in the Cuban Mafia's insane embargoes is a good idea, IMO.

Here's a question for you.... While the farmers get a subsidy, the millers get none from the Dept. of Agriculture. Do they have other hidden subsidies like OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation) financing schemes to help tide them over?
