I think you are confusing things in your mind.
If the guy on the ledge is jumping because this is a necessary part of his belief in God, or a higher power, I don't think it is any of my business to intervene. Why would you stop him from exercising his belief? What right do you have? I wouldn't stop you from exercising your belief either. Maybe he is right, and you are wrong. Maybe the black Nike folk are in heaven afore ye. And maybe not. Interference in belief bothers me. Because I do not want to be interfered with- I know this will be difficult for you to understand- your religion is after all messianic and very interfering.

If the guy is on the ledge for other reasons, I think we ought to try to help. But if it is part of his religion, no way. Assuming he is not going to pull anyone else along with him. He doesn't have that right. It doesn't have anything to do with hate- it has to do with me wanting the greatest personal autonomy for myself. I must grant to others, what I want myself. Not that it is a strain or anything. Because it isn't.
