The social security funds will be tapped until 2011 not just one year. This is assuming no more accelerated tax cuts and spending increases.

am willing to spend a little more for a short time to improve the country's defense.
It's not a little more, it's a whole lot more. It's a whole lot more than Bush says he needs to fight the terrorists. Leave no defense contractor behind is the new motto. Only 10 billion were projected by Bush to pay for smart bombs and new CIA spooks and stuff. The rest is for armour plated pork.

There's not even a goal. When do we know the war is over? Is there a wall to tear down? Is it when Bin Laden is caught? Do we need to conquer Iran,Iraq, and North Korea? Is it when there are no more terrorist acts in the world? This is the worst kind of entitlement, an open ended invitation to throw money away.
