i fear that won't be possible...there's some reason to hope btw. that French candidates for the job will be as unlikely to bow to political pressure as Duisenberg obviously is. i think the ECB's culture is evolving in the right direction. everybody knows the stakes are huge, so i doubt that anything is likely to happen that could be seen as weakening faith in the new currency.
