I wouldn't take that bet. Right now it's about 50/50 that Carly survives the Compaq merger (and about the same odds that the merger goes through as planned). But ultimately, somewhere down the road, she gets the axe. If not for the merger, then for something else. It's like being a manager in baseball. Sooner or later they all get replaced. Guys like Jack Welch (with GE) are an exception, not the rule. He got out on top, while the gettin' was good. Immelt (Welch's successor at GE) faces the recession, and loses no matter how good he actually does in the bear environment...
