6:08PM Linear Tech wins appeal over Micrel in patent suit (LLTC) 40.27 -0.36: U.S. Court of Appeals the Federal Circuit recently ruled in favor of Linear in its patent infringement lawsuit against Micrel, concerning intellectual property rights relating to Linear's integrated circuit voltage regulators. On 12/28/01, the Federal Circuit overturned the decision of the lower court in San Francisco, which had held Linear's patent to be invalid under the "on-sale bar." Federal Circuit confirmed that none of Linear's promotional activities prior to its filing of the patent application amounted to a premature sale or commercial offer for sale.

4:58PM Cymer tops estimates; guides higher (CYMI) 35.75 +0.24: Company reports Q4 net loss of $0.06 per share, $0.03 better than the consensus estimate; Q4 revenues came in at $54.8 mln versus the consensus estimate for revenues of $52.9 mln; company guides higher for Q1; sees revenues in the range of $57.0-$58.7 mln versus the current consensus estimate of $53.4 mln.

4:08PM Maxim Integrated meets estimtaes (MXIM) 53.80 -0.37: Posts Q2 net of $0.18 a share, in line with consensus, vs yr-ago EPS of $0.34. Rev rose 3.2% sequentially to $247.1 mln (consensus $246.87 mln). "Although visibility remains limited, we currently expect bookings to increase again in our third quarter."

2:23PM Broadcom: inventories getting worked down (BRCM) 40.54 +0.36: -- Update -- During their Goldman Sachs technology symposium presentation, co says that the inventory gluts in the enterprise mkt and cable modem mkt are beginining to be worked down and are "almost done".
