I'm not a metastock user so I don't know this will work but here's an idea.

Set the pricebar data to hidden.
Plot synthetic pricebars offset 3bars backwards.
Plot the average without any offset but base the avg on the synthetic bars instead of real bars.

This will give you the visual result you're looking for but when you check the data window for price or avg values you might have to work out a scheme to determine what the acutal date is you're looking at. Often if a price plot is set to hidden it still shows in the data window so you can reference those prices with those dates and ignore dates associated with the synthetic bars. if you're looking for price to cross the avg for signals then substitute the synthetic bars crossing the avg as the signal.

Visually it should give you the plot you're looking for. Maybe it's not worth all the effort. Maybe Metastock can't do what I've suggested, maybe there's another way?

Alternately regarding metastock not permitting forward projections. I can't confirm that but would search for a bars to right option and set it to 3 because if it did permit forward projections and you didn't have any blank space reserved to the right it wouldn't plot there. Also that setting would change something internally other than just showing blank space to the right like sometimes results from only displaying a few bar of data, that's something different and doesn't open up the space to be used even though it might look like the space is there.

Don't know a thing about how Metastock actually works but have fiddled with enough software to know work arounds like this are often possible and the results acceptable.

Best regards, MM
