As far as Sharon goes, I'm completely convinced that he, like the Bushies, will overreach and we will all pay a very steep price.

I agree, except I think that Sharon has already over-reached. But I also think the administration's embrace of him has been like embracing a redneck cousin... done out of politeness, not ardor.

OTOH, Israeli voters seem to be quite adept at switching leaders who get too extreme. I don't think Sharon will be re-elected without returning to the negotiating table, as all he's accomplished is a bloody stalemate.
