to all: expected media articles john_moynahan (44/M/Fairfax, VA) 2/5/02 10:32 pm
We are expecting to see articles this week in several major publications regarding some prototype products made by IBM's Watson Labs, at least one of which, the "MetaPad," may be relevant to our transferable core technology. As we understand it, these products are not intended for sale at this time, nor do we believe there is any marketing budget currently provided for these products.
As background, there were three commercials that aired awhile back to demonstrate some of the innovations IBM was working on in their labs that were not products or intended to be products in the near term: a "walk through" supermarket scanner, an intelligent refrigerator that called a repairman before breaking down, and a wearable computer used to trade commodities and make international phone calls. These ads were designed to better position IBM as an innovator in the technology market.
This positioning is occurring again, starting with the articles that we expect to see this week. We expect these articles to feature the MetaPad, which can be configured to function in several configurations, including a wearable computer.
We believe that the MetaPad is a strong validation of our transferable core technology that is covered by a number of issued and pending patents in the U.S. and abroad, and which apply to any computing application, not just wearables. We also believe strongly that, if pursued further, the MetaPad may present a number of very exciting possibilities for Xybernaut.
I believe that both Xybernaut and the relationship between IBM and Xybernaut benefited greatly from the first round of IBM's positioning, and I expect that the same will occur with this second round.
