The story in the Times mentions 6.25 million british pounds
but it is pretty clear that the SGI systems comprise of
just a part of this sum since I cannot imagine how 50 or
even 63 systems would cost so much. Also, the Times is
not very clear about the other "13 desktop servers"
are they desktops or servers? are they SGI or not?

SGI Desktops can vary between $5000 (entry level O2)
and over $50,000 for a highly configured dual CPU
OCTANE with high-end graphics. The prices for servers
which are much more scalable can vary even wider.
An entry point Origin 200 server is about $11,500
while a 128 CPU Origin 2000 would be in the millions.
No to mention special-order configs like the 3,072 CPU
in the Los Alamos ASCII project.

In any case, SGI has long been very strong in the automotive
industry and is known to be a major supplier of CAD seats
to companies like Chrysler, Mercedes Benz and several more.

Hearing about more of these wins especially in highly
regarded leaders such as Jaguar, is nice though.
