You don't understand what the AMT is.

The AMT is terrible. It hurts the economy. AMT makes companies pay more taxes when things are bad and less when times are good.

No reputable economist supports the AMT. And it's not a "tax giveaway" because the companies already will recoup the AMT "overpayment" - but when times are better and they and the economy doesn't need it.

There is no meaningful defense of AMT, other than politicians playing to the ignorant.
