Hmmm... maybe you can elaborate on this. I personally believe that internationalization of Jerusalem, possibly under UN control, is integral to obtaining peace and taking protection and control over the holy sites out of the equation.

Jerusalem and the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif are very dear to both sides. Jerusalem is the central sacred city of the Jews for the last three thousand years, and Arafat has answered by making Jerusalem central to his Palestinian-nationalist vision. Also, it is simply impossible to overestimate Arab paranoia concerning the Dome of the Rock. They are convinced that the infidels are waiting their chance to destroy it.

Are both sides going to give up their "eternal capital" and just walk away and tell the UN, it's all yours? Not likely, in my opinion. Failing that, would the UN have the stomach to enforce a decree of internationalization? Not if their history is any guide.
