Teknowledge Wins Navy Contract for Phase II Personal Education and Training Assistant PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Teknowledge Corporation (Nasdaq: TEKC - news) has been selected as an award winner in the U.S. Navy's Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) competition. Teknowledge was awarded a $750,000 Phase II SBIR contract to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate an intelligent interface agent. The personal education and training assistant (PETA) will act as a personal aide in web-based learning applications. An important component of the contract is the development of a high-performance, scalable, knowledge server to distribute customized knowledge over the web to thousands of users.
Dr. Michelle Sams, Program Manager of Teknowledge's Training Systems group, said, ``The PETA capabilities will include user selectable interfaces, scalability, open architecture, modularity, and the ability to personalize interactions with a student or customer. This project provides an opportunity to develop new software and integrate several existing components together. The resulting personalization, tutorial, and knowledge-based software can later be embedded in Teknowledge's software products.''
Neil Jacobstein, Teknowledge's president and chief executive officer said, ``PETA is an exciting new contract of strategic significance to Teknowledge. It will allow us to focus R&D talent on the ability to serve large amounts of personalized knowledge to thousands of users. This kind of scale is necessary if we are to go beyond low volume interactions with customers and provide fast, personalized, knowledge-based interactions on the web. PETA is the third Web-based training contract that Teknowledge has won competitively over the past six months. I believe that these new capabilities will eventually have many commercial spin-off applications, including data mining, personalized presentations, and the ability to deliver next-generation financial guidance and tutorials.''
