PayPal pulls out at the last minute

Last Update: 6:08 PM ET Feb 6, 2002

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - The brightening spotlight on the market for initial public offerings dimmed suddenly on Wednesday afternoon following PayPal's postponement of its planned IPO.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based provider of online payment services had planned to offer 5.4 million shares at a range of $12 to $14 with lead underwriter Salomon Smith Barney.

But the company said it would delay the IPO because of a lawsuit filed against it by rival Certco claiming patent infringement, according to Dow Jones Newswires. It did not set a new date.
