I'm a bigtime computer geek and I've been sticking with my 2-year-old 733 MHz system because there's been no compelling reason to upgrade.

Scott, I recently replaced my 400 MHz Pentium II with a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 and I love it. I don't feel the money was wasted at all. While I certainly think that the replacement cycle has been lengthened, it hasn't been repealed. I doubt very much that you're going to keep your current system forever.

I'm even a big fan of Windows XP. In the months that I've been running it, I don't think it's crashed once. My family has other computers and I am definitely planning on upgrading them at some time in the future.
