9:46am 02/07/02 Sun analyst meet fails to inspire shares (SUNW) By Tomi Kilgore
cbs.marketwatch.com;

Shares of Sun Microsystems (SUNW) are shedding 15 cents to $9.43 following the company's analyst gathering Wednesday. The stock has been under pressure of late, losing 7.9 percent in the previous two trading sessions, as investors have become increasingly concerned over competition. The stock is now down 23 percent since the end of last year. Analyst Daniel Kunstler at J.P. Morgan reiterated his "buy" rating on the stock, saying he believes "the bear case on Sun has become a littly hysterical." "True, a bear case driven by overwhelming competitive pressure from IBM in the short term and Microsoft in the long term, if it came to pass, could conceivably be devastating," he said in a note to clients. "However, we continue to believe that the likelihood of such a bear case is low." Banc of America's Joel Wagonfeld said he remained concerned about long-term issues including sustainable revenue growth, margin compression and market share
