Hi Neocon,

IMO, the Enron mess is a classic example of why a society needs regulation of the various facets within the society. Because, unfortunately, people are unable to govern themselves. If we could, we could get "government off our back" as the more conservative elements of our society call for.

These kind abuses, whether it be social or environmental
lead to all major regulation..1932 Securities regs, the environmental regs of the 70's etc.. Many times too late.

The tendency of many individuals is to push and push the limits of the best interests of society for their own short term gain. And if allowed to continue, not unlike a runaway cancer cell, they could destroy their host and in the end destroy themselves.

An evolutionary thing, I imagine, survival of the fittest. But it seems the fittest, after destroying everything around them will eventually destroy themselves. Ironic IMO, because many of the more conservative elements that do not believe in evolution are the ones that are the best examples.

Just my thoughts,
