I have not read it. I am not likely to read it. It is not my job, my plate is full. I am acquainted with the genre, though, and that is what I base my comments on. If I am mistaken, and they are better documented than usual, I apologize.
In spite of everything? I am proud to be a citizen in the greatest, freest, and most prosperous country on the face of the earth. I even have had pleasant experiences dealing with the federal bureaucracy, writing for information or forms, for example, and getting prompt attention. I know a fair number of people who have served in one way or another in government. I even know a fellow who is an intelligence analyst for the CIA. They are pretty good folk, and, whatever their foibles, are certainly not the sort of irresponsible, power mad persons you seem to imagine. Finally, I have no alternative but to trust someone, at some point, or I cannot function as a human being. Society is interdependent. If we do not suppose that most people, most of the time, are honest and competent, we are lost...... |
