"I am proud to be a citizen in the greatest, freest, and most prosperous country on the face of the earth"
Amen to that, brother! Thank heaven we have the problems of prosperity and the good fortune to have the amount of freedom that we still h ave.
Without diligence, we won't have either. My approach is "management by exception", and not worry unless something seriously is out of whack. Which is what is happening now vis previous posts
"I even know a fellow who is an intelligence analyst for the CIA" Yes indeed, most that I know in intel professionally or casually are indeed fine persons and a couple I'm happy to call friends. You haven't read my previous posts on that subject. You must be misunderstanding my criticism of the leadership. The people that do the real work, are great. Their best work is hamstrung by current conditions.
Agreed - most people are honest in this great society we have - a few bad apples spoil that lot, especially in secret positions, and in leadership. In private enterprise, look at Enron, bad leadership, secret deals, good people otherwise, cratered company, loss of billions. It's a common theme.
When you say you're "aquainted w. the genre", I had the same opinion for years, until it came to my attention from those same friends in intel that there are serious problems, major changes or elimination altogether is long overdue, and began to do my own research instead of assuming the party line. I try to read everything, especially what I might not agree with, to see if there's something I'm missing. |
