I remember your earlier argument and I take your point about executive privilege. Having spent a chunk of my career dealing with delegations of authority and organizational structures, I'm much more sensitive than most for getting the right functions and authorities in the right boxes. I, like you, think it's a political mistake. Whenever there is secrecy in this context, there is always the suspicion that there's something going on worth hiding. Executive privilege, in the same light, is often enough the last refuge of scoundrels that it's hard to look innocent standing up for that in principle. It's not important enough to go to the mat, IMO. I really don't think we're disagreeing.

I would add that it also exhibits that arrogant, dismissive tone that I find so unattractive, but that's just an afterthought. I know you wouldn't agree with my addition, but my primary rationale is the same as yours, I think.
