Terje, The industry is going towards .25u in the future, however, the yeilds today at .25u are too low to make it worth while for production. The cost savings of moving to smaller geometry is obvious, however, the yeilds are so low at .25u that it ends up costing more.

The first industry to move to .25u will probably be the DRAM makers, since they crank out millions of chips a month. Even they are just getting into .25u.

As far as less defects per square micron.....basically, the smaller the geometry the more the defects because u need higher precsion tools.
