"Conservatives ... don't depend upon government assistance or intervention." It would be interesting to look at the political spectrum assignation of various endless list of Fortune-1000 and oil bidnesses that suck 1,000 government tits like ravenous little piggies yet wish to claim an aura of classic conservatism. Per your explanation of the philosophical opposition to gov't intervention or assistance, these are all "Liberals", or in the vernacular "demolib pinheads" I agree with the concern with wealth transfer from the taxpayers of this country to other ready pockets at the government trough. I'd love to find a pie chart of recipients broken down into (a) incomes greater than some threshhold like $150k, and (b)political affiliation. Haven't found one yet. But it would be a good grist for this argument.
