I enjoy a good discussion of the facts. There are always two sides to most anything, and it is good to look at differing points of view.
Yes. I'd go further. It's good to be able to embrace differing points of view. I'd like to avoid missing a run from $20 to $82, if and when that ever happens. I sure hope when that time comes I don't end up feeling like a total dork for having dissed the guy who was just trying to show me the error of my ways, all the while I argued against him.
It is important to not just browse the data and seize on only certain amounts that will assist in proving ones preconceived opinions. That happens all too frequently on threads such as this.
Here I really disagree.
Firstly, it's hard enough to be brief discussing something as complex as Cisco's business without being selective in the facts presented.
Secondly, it's somewhat useful to selectively present facts based on the thesis of the subject at hand. Two plus two equals four: a fact, but irrelevant to the core of my thesis. Which is the point of this rejoinder.
Third, what happens all too often is folks post stuff like "You're wrong". Bald opinion, without deigning to back it up with fact or reasoning. I'm guilty as charged, of course. Not that I'm alone.
Someone with an axe to grind will pervert accounting information, and then use it to mislead others. I take exception to that, and always will.
Me, I have never been smart enough to get inside someone else's head and figure out their motive. Nor so arrogant think I can. Prefer to argue the facts themselves and the construction of the logic on its face, and leave it to that.
As to "misleading"... is expounding that or why the stock price should go up misleading? If it goes up, obviously not. But if it goes down? Perhaps just wrong? Switching the words "up" and and "down" should not shift the morality of the position.
However, honest debate is good and I enjoy it
Well yes, I do enjoy a good debate. Discussion moreso.
Must admit, posting to the Cisco thread that the stock is more likely to go down than up is a somewhat unpopular stance. Makes for good debate. Even though it's turned out to be true. |
