There nothing wrong with a $50 graphics card. Depending on the card (assuming 8mb and >220MHz RamDac) you can certainly run high resolutions just fine in Windows. But you can't do that with i815 integrated video! Even at 1024 your refresh rate is capped at (60-75 Hz) so not only are your eyes hurting from the flickering screen but while you're enjoying that your processor is also choking, starved out for memory bandwidth by the video adapter. An external video card, built anytime in the last five years, will have superior memory bandwidth to integrated video (usually running off pc133) and does it without compromising system performance. The reason you buy an extensive video card is for the other features such as 3-D, video in/out or dual head (which is great btw).
