here's the problem with the bible:
even as it is in the protestant canon (i believe the catholics add the apocrypha to the list), the bible is a strange, strange book.
here's what happened:
in about 3-hundred-something A.D., the council of nicea was convened to decide upon the church canon; there were many books about jesus and some had to be discarded while others kept.
the, 'jesus as ultimate deity, part of trinity' faction won out and that's what the accepted canon tries to outline.
some call the new testament as it is, 'paulism.'
go to a catholic web page and see that they say that the faction which won out was the one with the torture marks - gouged out eyes, missing limbs, etc. - thus they were the true saints at the council.
go to another web page and they say that, at the council of nicea, those statist-serving, enslaving forces won out.
if the subsequent behavior of the catholic church is any indication, i would say that the latter won out.
perhaps again though that is too simplistic.
perhaps the catholic church has both light and dark characters. some have theorized that satanists have at times infiltrated certain aspects of the catholic church and done 'evil' deeds to make the church look bad.
it does have to make one wonder though, if when reading the bible and comparing to the vatican, with its vast catacombs of weird stuff which it will never let the public see; that the catholic church itself might be the harlot of babylon.
anyway, that verse in romans about obeying the government; that the government is put there by god... now there's an example of some of the strangeness i'm wondering about.
stalin of god? hitler of god? tojo, fdr, clinton, bush, of god?
one other problem with christianity is the idea of judgement, then an eternity of stasis.
no matter how heinous the acts of a person in one lifetime, why should they be held accountable for an eternity? it seems the judgement is far harsher than the crime.
i cannot for the life of me visualize everlasting stasis.
it seems more like a never-ending wheel.
here is another thought to ponder. everyone has a different idea of what would really be an ecstatic existence - that thing called 'heaven'
i would like little miniature go-cart-sized tanks and play armored war all day.
that's the ticket... go-carts with automatic paintball guns... i could do that forever.
how about slot cars?
lots of men think of heaven as many women and just they alone as a male.
one person might imagine heaven as being with one or more women, having lingerie parties and racing slot cars and playing paintball and drinking strawberry smoothies and smoking cigarettes. oh, and playing rock and roll music every night.
you see? everyone has a different idea of what floats their boat. |
