What will be really interesting to watch is whether Sun agrees to develop a Merced system. They were in early on with the Itanium program but Sun and Intel got into a fight and that project died pretty early. It's going to be a really hard pill (for Sun) to swallow, since the Merced is basically an HP PA-RISC chip, so it's like Sun is using HP's hardware to sell Solaris. What would be really funny is if you could run Solaris on an HP Merced system and HP-UX 11.0i on a Sun box.

I thought Merced was dead....didn't mean to make that rhyme. <g> What stage is it at? When do they expect to go into production?

In the meantime, Itanium hasn't been selling to well....do you think they will phase it out?
