Picked this up on Bond Talk today. Margin call rumor... bondtalk.com 12:35 PM The rumor of the effect of margin calls on the stock market posits that the late weakness seen in equities late in daily trading each day this week relates to margin calls, which are typcially due by 2:30 pm on a given trading day. Rumors are that a large hedge fund will have to meet a large margin call today.
