Detail without evidence says little. Any salable novel contains rich detail about imaginary characters and situations. I agree that the label "demonic" seems to be itself a rather extraordinary claim.

A good example of the sort of trap it's easy to fall into can be seen in James Redfield's The Celistine Prophecy. This book was written and sold as a novel (a fine novel at that) but over the years has attracted a loyal following who regard it as true. That is certainly their right but it points out that even an author's intent can be overcome by the reader's imagination.
