Gold makes excellent bullets as it is soft enough to not wear barrels. Cleaning weapons becomes less of a chore and more profitable. As every latent psychotic who was in Vietnam will tell you, cleaning an M16 was a necessary chore that would save your life occasionally. If you provided additional dividends for the grunt that he did not forget this, it would provide a survival ratio. You could of course rechamber enemy weapons, go back to the M14 or M1-1903 which were much more reliable and forget the whole expensive process. I never could understand the need to waste all your ammo in the first 3 minutes of a firefight rather than work a bolt for the next 30 minutes with some guarantee that when you really needed it, the weapon would shoot through the tree, go another 100 yards, and through two enemy in addition. A weapon that will take out a vehicle, a person, or both at 1500 yards is not preferred over one that is 2 pounds lighter, jams, runs out of ammo quickly and may take out the person, but not the vehicle and not at more than 300 yards and not reliably. This is called military thinking. A routine oxymoron.
