The world will never "make sense" if by "making sense" you mean fitting into a preconceived notion about the way things "should" be. I've found it to be a more useful approach to reverse the process and consider how would "reality" need to be structured so that what we observe makes sense "as is". In other words, don't try to force an order onto the data, instead let the data show you its internal order.

A good first-level screen for this activity is the so-called "problem of evil", which your post references. I would agree that philosophies which cannot provide a satisfactory answer to the problem of evil simply show the immaturity of their development. The fact that many such philosophies have been around for a long time in itself doesn't mean much. That isn't to imply that they have nothing to offer, but rather that they are still in the early stages of their development.
