renoso:

"Although I share your enthusiasm, isn't it true that one AMD official recently was quoted as saying that, after 7 or 8 months in the server sector, AMD had zero market penetration?"

Thatsame AMD official continued with the statement above that by the end of FY02 q1 that "good server chipset shortage" issues will be resoved thus removing any remaining "performance issue" barriers...or something to that effect...

"With the Hammer still off in to the future, just how much competition can AMD be to Intel in servers?"

AMD, if able to penetrate this sector in q2 and q3 will cause a significant shrinkage in INTC margins in those server "performance ranges" in which AMD will be competing...(My point is that longer term, assuming some degree of success by AMD along the lines of that which we have recently witnessed in both the consumer and mobile sectors, combined with a successful Hammer will seriously impact INTC's last "high margin" bastion...INTC is already reeling from AMD's competition as witnessed by a $10.2 billion decline in NI in FY01...Unless INTC can reverse this current trend, (I'm optimistic by nature, but not nearly as optimistic as Elmer and the rest of the gang that believe that p4's uncompelling features provide such potential) INTC's growth rate and consequently share price will be severely hampered going forward...
