The Israelis were afraid of a war, by taking the Mufti, but the Zionists were not afraid of a war when they lobbied and terrorized for a "State"?

You pick what's worth fighting for.

To have a state and not live under Arab rule, particularly the Mufti's? Yes, that's well worth fighting for. The alternative was highly unpalatable -- death or exile. It's worth losing 1% of your population for that.

To take revenge upon the Mufti, assuming they could have got at him? No, that's not worth a war. No national interest was at stake there.

Why is this so hard to for you to see? Don't you know anything of the history of Israel, or its relatively weak status in the 1950's?
