If anyone could point to a list where French positions on international issues reflected the wisdom of Solomon, while the US positions were dead wrong, I'd love to see it.

The French and their European compadres are the Chomskys of the international stage. As they themselves never have to work to directly to resolve problems threatening world peace, their role is that of the critic who himself has no track record, so we can never tell whether--if he were directing the movie--it would truly have come out better. As the actions and opinions of the French have no impact on world affairs, they are free to "say anything" so long as it appeases some nation or group France wishes to appease.
