Inna lilahi wa inna lilahi rajioon..

I did not know that.. I guess a number of old time favourites have passed on. Some before their time although it looks like Qateel Shifai led a full life.. Here is some thing I found in Dawn, Karachi..

Qateel - the poet of beautiful lyrics

By Dr Afzal Mirza

So Qateel is also gone. He was a lively person full of exuberance and energy who wrote poetry till the cruel hands of disease overpowered his sensibility. A poet through and through he lived on his poetry and attained fame and prosperity.

I first met him in Abbottabad in 1959 where he came to attend a Mushaira. He was then in his forties. His hair was receding but his fair Hazara complexion and light-coloured eyes compensated for his advancing age. He used to dress himself up exquisitely. Normally he wore silk kurta-pajamas a sign of prosperity for a poet. In Abbottabad he was treated as son of the soil because he was born in Haripur Hazara a picturesque town not very far from Abbottabad.
