The French "give away" 1% of GDP in foreign aid? You're killing me, really. Their abundance overwhelms me. $14 billion? That is your grand French generosity? The US gives that much away to Israel and Egypt alone!
The French got thrown out of Vietnam long before the US did, you mean. The US was never stupid to mass in an encircled valley with the enemy's artillery holding the hills.

The French, my dear hdl, are the whores of the world, as a nation. They are the hedonist, conceited, spiteful remains of world power passed into history, unable to come to grips with its dotage.
They are irrelevant, and the sooner they realize it and go on, the better off they will be. And I really wish their government officials would stop with the hypocrisy. Talking out one side of their mouths about American greed and out the other about ending Iraqi sanctions so they can whore themselves on Saddam's petroleum bed.
